TRADITION WITH A TWIST

Graeme and Ali have had a busy year this year playing across the South and South West with both DEVIL'S ELBOW and recently with the new band Mad Magdalen, playing at some wonderful festivals and meeting lots of new friends.

Much of this year has been taken up with the recording of a new album with Bob and Lesley Shatwell and Paul Tabbush, based on an 18th century tune book, found in the Vaughan William's Library and dedicated to Kitty Bridges.

The Kitty Bridges album is now complete and is due to be launched at Sidmouth Folk Festival along with the tune book. Some 3 years from Bob first finding the book in a shoe box in the Library, to releasing it, the project really has been a labour of love. We are all really pleased with the way the tunes have been given a new life having been shut away for so long.
As part of a living legacy, DEVIL'S ELBOW use new rhythms, harmonies and arrangements as part of their own distinct sound, playing traditional music as well as writing great new songs and tunes.Click at the bottom of the page to hear some of them.

Graeme plays guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, bodhran and vocals and cut his teeth playing guitar and bass in punk and Indie bands in Hampshire and the South, including Terminal Jive and the Urge.

Ali was classically trained, studying first at the Royal Northern College of Music and then at Colchester. She played in a variety of Irish, blues, folk rock and cajun bands in East Anglia including The Mormops and Hair of the Dog.A natural musician she plays accordian, fiddle, whistles, guitar and sings.
